Crocuses give the best result when you plant many of them together. Make sure you plant the crocuses deep (10-15 cm). The crocus bulbs are a delicacy for many animals such as crows, magpies, mice and hares. They like to nibble on a crocus bulb . Planting deep ensures that birds cannot get to them.
Plant crocuses before the frost sets in. Crocus bulbs absolutely do not like wet feet and too much shade, take this into account when planting. Mix the soil in which you plant the crocuses with some manure or other organic material, this stimulates growth. Do not plant crocuses in a straight line but in clusters for a more playful effect.
You can mix different types of crocuses for a colourful effect, or choose a single variety to bring peace to your garden. With our spectacular range , the choices are endless. Keep the soil moist throughout the autumn, but not so much that the roots drown in it. If there is still a heavy frost in February, you should cover the crocuses to prevent permanent damage.
Location of the crocus
There are spring-flowering crocuses and autumn-flowering crocuses. All crocuses are sun worshippers. The autumn-flowering crocuses in particular feel most at home in a spot in full sun. And preferably a spot where the soil is nice and dry and hot in the summer. The crocus is an early flower bulb, so the spring bloomers also do well under deciduous trees.
Before the trees are properly in leaf, the crocuses have already flowered and have already produced sufficiently thick new corms to be able to flower again the following spring. Too much shade is not good for the crocus. It is therefore better not to plant crocuses under conifers. A location where they are in full sun for at least half the day is ideal.

Crocus Chryanthus
The Crocus Chrysanthus varieties do not cause such a colour explosion as most other crocuses, but they are still the most beautiful. Beautiful colours and exciting striped patterns on perfectly formed flowers make the Crocus Chrysanthus little miracles of Mother Nature. Use them in places in the garden where you can see them well or on a pot or in a flower box.
If you really want to create a carpet of colour in early spring, choose one of the other Crocus types that Fluwel offers. Crocus Sieberi Sublimis 'Tricolor' can actually be used for both purposes. It is wonderfully beautiful both from a distance in the grass or a large border and up close.
Crocuses and bees
Crocuses are a delicious appetizer in the spring for bees, because they are one of the first to bloom. The bees fly out for the first time around this time to look for pollen. If you want to give the bee a helping hand, it is advisable to plant crocuses.
