Why do people buy flower bulbs? For the flowering bulb flowers. It seems like a pun, but it is true: flowers that grow from flower bulbs are called bulb flowers. Anyone who looks around in the Fluwel webshop will see that there are countless types of bulb flowers.

Spring flowering bulbs
The most famous bulb flowers symbolize spring, because that is when they come into bloom. The demand for spring-flowering flower bulbs remains undiminished, these are also the flowers that Fluwel receives the most responses to. They are bulb flowers that everyone knows: tulips , daffodils , crocuses , hyacinths .
But also the allium (a type of onion), the fritillaria and the muscari fall under this. Most flower bulbs that you buy at Fluwel are spring bloomers.
Summer flowering bulbs
Most bulbs have finished blooming in the summer. That is of course a shame. Summer-flowering flower bulbs are therefore popular, especially to be planted in combination with spring-flowering flower bulbs: this keeps the garden alive.
Lilies are the best known summer bloomers. We also sell dahlias , begonias , nerine , zantedeschias and eucomis , which bloom in the summer.
Autumn flowering bulbs
Autumn flowering bulbs are really rare. They are usually subspecies of already mentioned bulbs, which are specially grown to give some colour in the autumn. You can think of special lilies and crocuses.

Winter flowering bulbs
Bulb flowers need the winter to prepare for spring, but they normally never bloom during this period. However, you can still enjoy flowering bulb flowers in the winter, by fooling the bulbs a little. For example, the amaryllis can bloom beautifully in the living room, because the bulb 'thinks' that the room temperature is spring.
