Eranthis bulbs

Eranthis, also called Winter Aconite, is a cute, yellow flower that blooms in early spring. If the winter is very mild, the Eranthis can sometimes even bloom in January. It is therefore not without reason that this flower is popular in the garden. It brightens up the garden, especially in the darkest part of the year.

Eranthis in the garden

Eranthis is a woodland plant by nature. In your garden, you should therefore bear in mind that the conditions here should be somewhat similar if the winter aconite is to feel at home. The tubers of the eranthis are therefore best planted in a moist and humus-rich place. A good location for this flower is, for example, under a tree or shrub that loses its leaves in the winter, to provide more humus and provide shade in the summer. Clay or loamy soil is also suitable for the winter aconite, as it retains moisture well. If you have drier soil, you can add extra compost or clay minerals to make the soil suitable.

Eranthis has the nickname 'Winter Aconite' and has not got its name for nothing. As mentioned, this flower blooms very early in the year, sometimes even in December. This is of course ideal for garden lovers who like to start spring early. A little color in the garden quickly ensures a more positive mood.

The Eranthis is very beautiful in combination with other flowers that bloom early in the year. For example, imagine a flowerbed of eranthis and snowdrops . Planting Eranthis tubers should be done towards the end of summer or in the fall. The tubers are winter hardy to about -15 degrees. The nice thing about Eranthis is that it lasts for several years. Once you have planted the tubers, you will enjoy them for years. It is best to plant the tubers as deep as twice the height of the tuber and about 7.5 to 15 cm apart.
