Blauwe druifjes planten

Blue grape hyacinths (Latin: muscari ) are flowers that we generally associate with spring, but they actually bloom in early spring. They can be used in several ways in the garden and in the house. You can plant blue grape hyacinths neatly in a border for a classic and sleek look or create a large field.

Blue grapes in the garden

Blue grape hyacinths have an early flowering period, so you should plant blue grape hyacinths in the period September to October. Dig a trench a few centimetres deep, about twice as high as the flower bulb.

Plant the bulbs at the desired distance from each other and cover them with a layer of soil. Always with the point upwards, because this is the side where the flowers will come out. After giving them a little water, you should leave them alone and let nature take its course.

Blue grape hyacinths as a potted plant

Blue grape hyacinths are also excellent as potted plants. You can buy blue grape hyacinths in pots ready-made at most garden centres once spring has arrived, but these are usually the standard varieties. With us you can buy varieties that are not always easy to obtain, such as the muscari Peppermint, a beautiful two-coloured muscari variety. This way you can put together your own pot for in the house, on the balcony or on the terrace. You can also mix the blue grape hyacinth bulbs with other spring bloomers such as the daffodil for a spectacular, colourful spring spectacle! The possibilities are endless, as long as you use your imagination.
