Good tulips for the garden Reading Olé, the Narcissus is as Spanish as tapas 3 minutes Next Amaryllis, the Winter Queen in our flower bulb range

The Narcissus is associated by many with the Netherlands and England. Understandable because in these countries Narcissi are grown on a large scale. In the Netherlands more for the production of Narcissus bulbs that are then traded worldwide. In England it is the cheerful flowers of the Narcissus that are picked by the millions during the winter months to end up in a vase on your kitchen table.

What many do not know is that the cradle of this beautiful flower is on the Iberian Peninsula. In Spain and Portugal you can find Daffodils in many places that grow there in the wild just like we are used to from the Dandelion.

Dozens of different species can be found, spread across the peninsula. From the tazetta and bulbocodium daffodils in the far south to the pseudo daffodils in the north and the poet's daffodils in the Himalayas.

The Narcissus bulbocodium is also affectionately called the 'Hoop Skirt Narcissus'. It is still somewhat less known to many of us. However, it is common in large parts of Spain and Portugal. It can be found from high in the mountains to marshy meadows.

Mary Poppins and Oxford Gold are two daffodils in my webshop that are closely related to this species.

The ancestors of the well-known Narcissus Thalia also come from the land of the bolero, tapas and the siesta. Thalia is obtained from the Narcissus Triandrus.

In drier areas you can frequently encounter the Narcissus triandrus.

If you want to see what the triandrus daffodil looks like in real life, plant the small daffodil ' Angel's Breath '. This cute daffodil with its beautiful name looks like two drops of water to the species Narcissus triandrus.

The pseudo narcissus and the poeticus narcissus have also crossed the border. The pseudo narcissus can be found in abundance in France. In the Fluwel web shop you can find the Narcissus ' Princeps ', a Narcissus that has been selected from the pseudonarcissus.

The 'Poets Narcissus', also called poeticus, can be found in the Alps by the millions. The Narcissus recurvus or the 'Pheasant's Eye Narcissus' is one that you can also find in the Alps as a wild flower.

The Narcissus Actaea is also closely related to these Narcissi. Both can be found in my webshop.

If you ever find yourself in Spain in the spring, keep your eyes open, there is a good chance that you will come across some of the ancestors of this beautiful flower bulb.

Often they are just along the road, but if you like walking the chance is even greater that you will find a few. Even in the mountains, where you would not expect them at all, they can sometimes be found. Look carefully, the flowers of the wild daffodils are not large.

In my web shop you can find a few true species. The fernandesii, moschatus, pumilus, tenuior, and the recurvus are all daffodils that also occur in nature.

Kind regards and lots of daffodil fun,
