Are there tulips that will come back well the following year if you leave them in the ground?

The tulip is not a perennial plant that will bloom annually in your garden. To ensure that it blooms again the following year, it is best to dig it up and store it .

But as with every rule, there is an exception to this one; the Darwin Hybrid tulips.

Darwin Hybrid tulips are large-flowered modern tulips that have been developed from fosteriana tulips. The fosteriana tulip is a wild form of the tulip.

Darwin Hybrid tulips are large and strong tulips that are very suitable for the garden. Tulips of this type have the property to survive better in the ground than all other large-flowered modern tulips.

There is no guarantee that if you plant this type of tulip bulbs that they will always do well and come back year after year, but it is certainly worth a try.

Around my house there are several that have returned for several years, but I have to be honest and say that I have also planted many of which I did not see any flowers in the second year.

To increase the chance of a good result, it is important that you plant the tulip bulbs of the Darwin Hybrids a little deeper than you might be used to: at least 15 cm of soil on top of the bulb.

Darwin Hybrid tulips are excellent tulips for the garden and almost all have the same flowering time and flower shape.
They are widely used in our mixtures and are highly appreciated by many gardeners.

Give it a try, if these tulips are happy in your garden you can enjoy them for years to come.
