The special narcissus Thalia is even more special this year than usual: she is celebrating her centenary. For a century she has been decorating gardens and borders with her beauty. She was introduced in 1916 and she is still as popular and loved as she was in the good old days.

I must say that I feel an almost fatherly pride when I think of what this beautiful flower has achieved in her existence: wherever she came and went she has enchanted everyone.

Thalia Narcis
Thalia Narcis

Thalia is named after the Greek muse Thaleia. In Latin she was later called Thalia. Thaleia was seen as the leader of the nine muses. She wore an ivy wreath on her head and a tambourine in her hand. With a name that then meant “the blossoming festive joy”, Thaleia provided joy and a happy atmosphere wherever she went. I therefore think the narcissus Thalia is a worthy bearer of this name: she has the same effect on a garden, border or park as the Greek muse had on a party.

The ancient Greek meaning of the name is “the Joyful” or “the Flowering,” and that is exactly what this narcissus has been doing for a hundred years. Flowering happily wherever it is planted, creating a festive atmosphere with its fresh white color and cheerful appearance. A real must-have for the gardener, I would say. You can order this Thalia narcissus from May 17 to mid-December in our webshop.
