I first saw her in the Poldertuin in Anna Paulowna. Somewhat hidden behind a tree in a back of a large flowerbed she stood there doing her best to brighten up the garden. No one could really see how beautiful she is, she was too far away.

Of course I secretly went off the path to capture her beauty on photo. When I got closer she truly amazed me with her beauty. Her flowers are not large but oh so beautiful in shape and then that beautiful play of colors that she shows from her deep burgundy heart, I fell in love immediately.

But alas, no business card with this cutie. What now; what is her name and where does she come from? I sent photos to all the flower bulb specialists in my circle of acquaintances, but none of them could tell me who this Tulip belonged to or what her name was. It looked like we were dealing with a very well-hidden gem in the world of Tulips.

Until at one point a young colleague said to me 'can't this be a Tulip from Thijs. I immediately called Thijs and yes, it was one of his Tulips. Thijs is a retired flower bulb grower who, as a hobby, still breeds some Tulips. Do you already have some bulbs from Thijs? And can I buy some for the Fluwel website?

Yes of course, come over and we'll talk about it.

After buying some bulbs from Thijs he was able to point out a very interesting detail of this Tulip; it smells delicious, a bit like almond or more in the direction of pistachio nuts. Because we did not yet know what to call it we immediately decided to give it the delicious name 'Pistache'.

Give her a nice spot at the front of the garden or plant her in a pot on the patio, I wouldn't be surprised if you fall in love with her too.
