A name that is completely to my taste, both the grape Merlot, and of course the wine that is made from it, as the Tulip Merlot I find super. But also the descriptions on the wine bottles in which the Merlot is processed are often amazingly good.
You could also say of the Merlot Tulip that it has an intense ruby red colour and spreads a light delicate scent of violets. It is grown on the slightly acidic soils of our beautiful Zijper polder, ravaged by salty sea winds, and does very well in combination with Blue Grape Hyacinths and other blue flowered bulbous plants.
But of course, we bulb growers are not wine growers drenched in sun and romance and we simply say that this tulip is beautiful and good.
