The bulbocodium or 'hoop skirt daffodil' has been on the market since time immemorial. However, it has never become a really big product because in practice the original, wild-originating, graceful bulbocodium does not naturalise so well. It is just a bit too cold for it in Northern Europe. But fortunately, daffodil lovers and breeders are working hard to improve this. For example, Oxford Gold from the American breeder Walter Blom. He has crossed the wild bulbocodium daffodil with a richly flowering jonquilla daffodil. The result is a turbo bulbocodium; large flowers with a beautiful colour and a daffodil that can decorate the garden or the pot with a lovely spring breeze.
