A species of lily originating from Japan that is easy to grow and always does well in the garden. Lilium leichtlinii can grow up to 1.5 meters high in the first year. If it is left for a few years, it can go towards 2 meters.
Lilium leichtlinii has beautiful full flower spikes with up to 20 bright yellow gracefully curled flowers. Because of its height it is very suitable to place between the perennials. If leichtlinni does not have tall growing plants around it that it can lean against, it is wise to tie it up, it could fall over in rainy and windy weather.
A nice detail of leichtlinii is that it is eaten in abundance in China, Korea and Japan, which they do with a few other lily species that occur there. It is a simple stir-fry meal with the scales of the lily bulb, celery, garlic (of course garlic), oil, dash of wine, pinch of pepper, a little salt, cornstarch and some chili as ingredients.
