The big challenge for Hyacinth breeders; to make a Hyacinth that is just as yellow as the Narcissus. The two existing yellow Hyacinths are as old as the road to Rome. City of Haarlem dates from 1898 and Gipsy Princes was found in 1988 as a colour variant in Gipsy Queen from 1927 (Gipsy Princess is also traded under the name Yellow Queen). Old elderly Hyacinths that are very beautiful but will lose their growth power and health due to old age.
But it turns out to be far from easy to breed a new yellow Hyacinth, because after all this time only Yellowstone has been introduced as a new yellow Hyacinth.
But it is a welcome addition because it is a bit shorter and much sturdier than its older color mates, making it excellent for use as a pot plant. Yellowstone has also been welcomed with open arms by gardeners. Its compact inflorescence, sturdy stems, bright yellow color and delicious scent are widely appreciated.
