Eucomis pole-evansii

A gift from the grower; his very, very thickest bulbs. With a big smile grower Langedijk from the West-Frisian Zwaagdijk came into our shed with his bulbs. "Koik this is nogurrus quality (yes, the good man speaks West-Frisian)."

24/+cm is the size of these whoppers and they still produce a whopper of flowers. I had already had a few from Langedijk for my garden when his batch was still too small to sell from.

The Eucomis pole-evansii does indeed have enormous flowers, which emerge from an enormous plant. It is amazing that something like this can grow from a flower bulb. Give her some space when planting, because everything that is too close will get a push. Plant the bulbs nice and deep, a good 10 cm of soil on top of the bulb, in a sunny spot. In my garden she has been there for years, with a small winter cover she is completely winter hardy.
