Amaryllis Papilio

A must-have for the true enthusiast; the papilionaceous Amaryllis. For generations it has been traded by flower bulb specialists, but it has never really broken through as a large commercial species. For that it is a bit too difficult to grow for the Amaryllis bulb growers.

This Amaryllis, originating from the subtropical rainforests of Brazil, will not bloom as quickly in your living room as other Amaryllises. There are years that it does well and starts growing and blooming immediately, but it can also be that you have to wait months before the flower appears.

The papillio is however very suitable as an evergreen plant in a conservatory or other light and warm room in your home. Plant it in a large pot and leave it alone. Its leaves will remain green all year round and every now and then, when it feels like it, it will show its beautiful exotic flowers.
