Crocus speciosus

The Crocus speciosus is really a bulbous plant that I enjoy very much. It has literally been appearing in my front garden for decades, around the end of October, with a breathtaking lilac-pink colour that fits perfectly with the atmosphere of autumn.

So beautiful, just when you think the gardening season is coming to an end, the Crocus speciosus comes to delight you for a few more weeks, simply fantastic.

Plant them in a spot in the garden where they are in full sun as much as possible, there they feel at home and do better. If you plant them in a shadier spot they will also flower and even come back for a few years but they will disappear over the years. If you place them in full sun, like in my front garden, you can enjoy them for much, much longer.

The Crocus speciosus blooms naked, don't be alarmed, by naked I mean without leaves. Only the flower appears in October, the leaves come above ground in the spring, just like with regular Crocuses. But the leaves of this Crocus are not at all disturbing without flowers, they have a beautiful fine structure and are actually quite elegant.

Don't wait too long to order this Crocus because when, around mid-October, the flowers start to grow too far out of the bulb, I will stop selling them.
