Wednesday is laundry day
Tulip Password
It often happens around this time: quickly in the car to pick up some bulbs that still have to go vlie-vla-vliegnel with an order. Nice to relax behind the wheel and time to call back the missed calls, of which there are always a few on my phone. Theo, what's going on, why did you call? (You probably remember Theo from previous news blogs, exactly yes, that (sometimes) absent-minded bulb grower who had forgotten the name of his Tulip Password. When he called his son Bart about it, he said 'dad, you forget everything too, you might even forget your password'. Theo still didn't get it, yes, yes that's right, no nonsense now, what's the name of that Tulip Bart? Beautiful moments in life. Narcissus Iwona, a small and cheerful Narcissus. Can be used both in the garden and in the pot. We will offer her next year.
But now Theo called to sell me another Narcissus: Iwona. “Come by, I’ll give you some bulbs to plant as a sample and maybe put in your web shop next year,” so I went to look for Theo, I found him in the back of the shed where he was racing around on his forklift truck à la Verstappen, washing his Anemones. Nice I thought right away, I’ll show that to the dear readers, a look in Theo’s laundry room. You certainly have a washing machine, this is Theo’s washing machine: That is quite different from the rotary drum that is spinning in our utility room
This is how the bulbs go in
This is how they come out
These are baby bulbs of the Anemone blanda. The Anemone blanda is propagated by seed. The rabbit droppings-looking tubers of the Anemone blanda do not produce chips or brood bulbs, so if you want to propagate them as a grower, you have to do it by seed. These are the bulbs that have been in the ground for two years after sowing, they are grown for another year and then they are big enough for the Fluwel webshop. Anemone blanda
This blue flowering bulb can also sometimes sow very well in your garden. Unfortunately, it is difficult to explain exactly what you need to do to make this a success. If the Anemone blanda is happy, it will come back for years to come – and even sow abundantly – but if it is not happy, it will be gone after a few years. Just try it, I always say, the bulbs of this Anemone are cheap (50 for € 7.60), plant them here and there in the garden and you will see for yourself where they are happy. Before I start talking about other bulbs, first something fun, the baptism of Narcissus Bregt. You probably know her; master servant Bregt. As a thank you for her dedication and friendliness, we named a Narcissus after her.
Of course we made a festive moment of it, after all it is quite special that a Narcissus is named after you. Bottle of champagne, PLOP, a small sip over the Narcissus and then enjoy the delicious champagne. Narcissus Bregt
Bregt was allowed to choose one herself and luckily she chose, in my eyes, the most beautiful Fluwel seedling that we showed her. This Narcissus Bregt is fresh in color, healthy and blooms exceptionally rich. Topper, next year she will be available under the Fluwel Specialty Narcissus in our webshop. Which bulb shall I put in the spotlight again…
No, I'm quitting, there's still a lot of work to be done in the shed. The bulbs for our customer in Chile have to be ready for the flower bulb inspector on Monday; and the bulbs for Qdaffs and the Fluwel Specialty Daffodils have to be counted in the bags. Photo bags Qdaffs. More next week.
Kind regards,
