Since time immemorial, the Lily has been put on a pedestal, planted and worshipped by gardeners worldwide. There are even many clubs and associations where you as a Lily lover can share your passion, knowledge and skills with fellow sufferers who are infected with the same lily virus.

The best known societies are the North American Lily Society in America and the Royal Horticultural Society Lily group in England.

This last association of the RHS has been merged with 'The Bulb Committee' but still has its own identity and publishes an annual 'Lily Newsletter'. Fantastically beautiful associations in which knowledge, passion, bulbs and seeds are passionately shared with each other. Also on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram you see beautiful pages where Lily lovers from all over the world show the most beautiful Lilies.

But I can imagine that not all readers of this blog have the same passion for the Lily as these enthusiasts but still want to try a Lily. But how do you start, because not all Lilies are equally easy in the garden. Well now, I will help you on your way.

Any garden and soil type in which other plants also grow without problems is suitable for Lilies . Most Lilies also like light; a few hours of sun per day is ideal. The species on this page are species that Eric Breed and I have had good experiences with in the garden. Really good Lilies to start with, even if the conditions are not completely optimal they will certainly come back a few years.

And if they feel at home in your garden, which is very possible, you will enjoy them for years. So if you are in doubt; try these varieties, success is guaranteed.
