Summer vacation… or not? Reading The dream doesn't quite come true 4 minutes Next I'm going to teach you a lesson

The dream doesn't quite come true

All bulbs for the Fluwel Specialty Narcissus collection are in the bags, but the American Dream does not come true: bulbs too short. Fortunately not too short, everyone who ordered American Dream will get them, but not the number they dreamed of. American Dream

This is her, the American Dream of many a Daffodil lover. To be honest, quite a nice flower. She is not the only one that I had a bit too little of, it happens more often that fewer bulbs emerge than were sold. With over 450 varieties, there are always a few that are not having their best year and are sick, weak or nauseous, which means that they do not do what is expected of them. Then everyone simply gets a few bulbs less of the ordered variety and we compensate the missed bulbs with another, in my opinion, more beautiful variety. But how do you solve that for a variety like American Dream? Unique in shape and color, there are really no good look-a-likes to be found. When I am at a loss at such a moment, I eventually solve it by simply giving two varieties that I find the most beautiful; La Delicatesse and Warming Up. Warming Up

Warming Up is a Narcissus that is the first large Narcissus to bloom at our nursery every year. She always knows how to warm me up for the beautiful spring that is coming. That is why we named her Warming Up. The Delicacy

And then of course the gorgeous La Delicatesse. Beautiful in shape and of a beautiful white that sometimes shows a hint of pink when the flower opens. Simply mighty beautiful, top.

Look, now I'm finally doing something right, I'm talking about Daffodils that are still available in the Fluwel webshop, you can still order them . Big Ups: a Tulip mixture that will make you steal the show

Yes, the intention of such a newsletter is of course to interest the dear reader in our beautiful bulbs, but I sometimes tend to forget that and write about others. The newsletters must of course have some use, we also have to put bread on the table, you can't always talk about the weather. Allium Ambassador, the most impressive ornamental onion

By the way, speaking of the weather, that was also a nice scissor movement from Mother Nature this week; Tuesday I drive to the barn and the thermometer reads 27 degrees, Thursday it is only 11 and these few degrees are accompanied by a large dose of thick wet drops. Autumn is approaching, with all that beautiful late summer weather it just doesn't occur to you, but in a week the calendar will suddenly be on September 21st. Autumn, time to think about the bulbs you want to plant . Tutti Tulpi, one of the most popular mixes in the Fluwel webshop. 50 bulbs, each bulb a different type, hand-packed to be 100% sure

I'm a bit searching for the right words to put it in a way that is not too pushy, but I have to be honest and say that we do not have an abundance of bulbs this year. The entire horticultural sector is struggling with disappointing harvests this year, and the flower bulbs did not come out of the ground in abundant numbers either. Our stock on the Fluwel website is also smaller than we had hoped, so if you wait until late autumn there is a chance that certain bulbs that you would like to plant are no longer available. Dahlia show garden at De Tulperij in Voorhout

But I won't make it too long this week because now that the sanding is done I would like to go down the dam to visit Dahlia growers. Enjoy the Dahlias and see if I can find something nice for you. Crocus tommasinianus the 'Farmer's Crocus'
