Linda's Hamburger Sandwich or the Candy Store?
Well, what shall I talk about? High on my wish list are Land van Fluwel and the Candy Store to write about sometime. At the moment I am waiting for a delicious Hamburger in the cozy restaurant of Land van Fluwel . A cowshed converted into an atmospheric eatery in the old farm of our 'Doe en Beleef' park.

The Hamburger, I must not forget the Hamburger. Or well, it is actually about Linda. Linda is nice, always happy and cheerful and she can cook very well. I don't know how it happens, I must have been very nice to her once, but every time I come Linda asks with a happy smile "food"... Hamburger? They are really made with love; deliciously juicy, a bit too much lettuce, a bit too many golden brown fries but tasty... It is okay every now and then, with 1 Hamburger a week I will easily remain a healthy Veek.

Well people, you should be glad that Romco wasn't there, otherwise this News Blog would have become very long. Romco is also a Happenstapper and Romco really sees the humor in everything. If a glass of soda falls over on a table, Romco is there with a mop before the lemonade even spills onto the floor and asks the dismayed looking eater 'so young man, should I get you a new one or did you want to knock over something else' followed by an infectious laugh that makes the whole table laugh along. Whatever happens, Romco keeps laughing. But hey, he's not there, so we're not going to write about him.

Then I'll write about the 'Candy Shop'. Loyal visitors of the Fluwel webshop have probably already been to the Candy Shop. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about; the Candy Shop is a page in the webshop where I offer almost all the Daffodils from my show garden. In addition to our Daffodil nursery of over 2 hectares that is cared for by Jan Hein, we also have a small plot of Daffodils on which almost 1000 different Daffodils are planted. New seedlings, old varieties from the past and many varieties from breeders from all over the world to see if there is anything commercially interesting or just something beautiful among them.

This enormous collection originated from a hobby that got out of hand of my father, and later also of me. We ourselves also started breeding new varieties, but we also simply enjoyed collecting all the beautiful things that were available from other breeders in the field of Daffodils . And to find beautiful new Daffodils you have to go to England and America, where there are dozens of Daffodil breeders. They breed the most beautiful Daffodils imaginable with flawless flowers, perfect symmetry and the brightest colours. As our collection became more and more known, we were automatically approached again by the same English and American specialist Daffodil webshops where we bought the bulbs in the past. Now with the question whether they could buy bulbs from us and then sell them on to the Daffodil lovers there. In the meantime, this hobby has secretly grown into a nice business and the collection is very well-known among Daffodil lovers worldwide. But time and again, when we have daffodil lovers, fellow flower bulb addicts and other visitors in our garden, the question always arises: 'Why is all this beauty not for sale anywhere in Europe?'

Last winter, suddenly came the message from our largest buyer of special Daffodils , Minature Bulbs & Choice Bulbs, that they were thinking of stopping. 'Suddenly' is not quite the right word, Frankie and Joyce Charlton are already around 70 and it was bound to happen at some point. Since growing and trading all those beautiful Daffodils is my greatest passion, we decided to take over the trade from him. First a few years together and then completely to us. And, now I can put all those Daffodils nicely on the Fluwel website and they are also available to all our European customers and Daffodil friends.

No sooner said than done. They can be found in the 'Candy shop' of the Fluwel webshop. Feel free to take a look and be surprised by all the beauty that is in our garden.
Kind regards,

PS I also wanted to say that, I completely forgot: watch out for snails the first few weeks after planting your Dahlias , they love the emerging sprouts of the Dahlia . You might think 'why don't those Dahlias come above ground'? If you look closely you can see that the snails nibble the sprouts down to the ground every night.
