Selecting bulbs at Olympic level
Two weeks without time to write a news blog, it's something, it's all a bit more hectic this season. Because we only planted the Daffodils around mid-December due to the persistent wetness last autumn, which the Daffodil doesn't really experience as pleasant, the Daffodils had all decided to stay green in the field for a long time as a 'thank you'. You're late...we're late too, they must have thought. Nice, in this already somewhat messy season, also having to start a whole week later. Everything had to be quick quick quick but the only Bulb that is quick this summer is Femke.
Ha, immediately a headache for Pien and Alina, the English and German translators, that I appreciate so much. I wonder how they are going to write this right 😊 Fortunately, I am also helped by my Dream Team this year. We have Pracht, our floor manager. Vlie-vla-vliegsnel with both her hands and her mouth. A small disadvantage is that after four o'clock she sometimes makes strange noises. And then of course master servant Bregt is there again this year (wearing a Velvet shirt). Bregt always works her ass off and also goes athletics four times a week after work to get rid of even more energy. In four years we will see Bregt on TV in Los Angeles, she promised me. A name to remember; Bregt Hopman, Olympic final 400 meters. Already a success, I'm going.
And then of course there are Roos and Sigge, who really help me out, unyielding workers. Hardwood cut savages who work like a horse in France. Small disadvantage is about three, could be four, times a day Sigge sr comes to keep them from work with nice talk. They are so good, they can pick out balls with their eyes closed. Or are they really dreaming, after all they are called Dream Team.
While we are struggling through a good thousand varieties of Daffodils, millions of bulbs are being packed in the Fluwel shed for our American customers.
The good news is that last Friday the first series of containers were allowed to be sent. Robin Koning alias, you can read it on his forklift, “The King” is filling them up in no time.
Always nice when the first cans leave the building, that gives a bit of space in the shed. Yes, that's what the drivers call the containers; cans. How many cans do you drive to the Maasvlakte, you hear them ask each other in the canteen.
But we're going back to the barn, to help my Dream Team. And, it's Friday again...eating at Linda or Mirea's at Land van Fluwel. No matter how busy it is, on Fridays at noon we always have a nice meal with the Dream Team. See you again next week.
Kind regards,
Carlos van der Veek
