Fluwel introduces new types of flower bulbs! Reading AGM Award: These flowers are doing exceptionally well! 3 minutes Next Daffodils!

The Award of Garden Merit is given to plants that perform exceptionally well in the garden. Qualifying plants are first planted in the RHS Trial Gardens, after which the judges, a group of the greatest bulb enthusiasts and experts, visit to view the results. The best of the best are selected for an AGM Award, to help you choose plants for your garden, among other things.

If a flower or plant is in possession of this quality mark, it is a real honor for the grower! The logo of this award can be seen in many garden centers, gardens and online shops, and also at Fluwel. The flower bulbs that we sell that have an AGM Award , have that visible on their photo.

I naturally highly recommend trying these flower bulbs: an AGM Award is not given away, so you are assured of a wonderful spring!

Who presents the AGM Award?

The AGM Award is given by the Plant Committees of the RHS, including the Bulb Committee, so you can be sure of a good judgement. The Bulb Committee is part of the RHS, the Royal Horticultural Society. The RHS is a British organisation that deals with gardening in all its aspects: from the best garden ideas to advising the European Union on regulations, they do it all.

Anyone can become a member of the RHS: they receive the magazine The Garden every month, which allows them free access to all their gardens and they can always ask for gardening advice. With around half a million members, the RHS is an incredibly large and important factor for gardeners of all shapes and sizes.

In order to distinguish the different aspects of gardening, there are a number of Committees, including the Bulb Committee. The Bulb Committee is a source of information and expertise in the field of flower bulbs. It also aims to convey the knowledge and skills of its members to a wider audience. In addition, the Members are often judges at the RHS shows.

More than a year ago I was offered the great honor to become a Member of the Bulb Committee by my friend, fellow bulb grower and chairman of the Committee Jan Pennings. To become a member one normally has to meet a number of requirements, such as experience in the trade and experience with showing at the (beautifully beautiful) shows of the RHS. At the time I was asked I did not meet all the requirements, but because the Committee according to Mr. Pennings was ready for more international influence I was allowed to become a Member to my great joy.

That is why I am now allowed to talk about things like this Award. I hope you will take a look at our flower bulbs that have earned this quality mark: it is of course not true that the other plants are no longer beautiful compared to the AGM plants, but with those with the AGM colour mark you are assured of one thing: this plant performs above average.

And it is precisely for this knowledge that the Award exists: to give you guidance in gardening, and to make choosing a little easier and more fun for you!
